2/17/2012 - As your lieutenant governor, I am happy to report the State of Alabama is leading the nation in reducing unemployment. More than 41,000 jobs have been created since January 2011, and your lawmakers are working full time to ensure that Alabama’s economic development is a top priority. We know the importance of a healthy dialogue between the business community and those of us who were sent to Montgomery to represent them. It is important for entrepreneurs to stay in touch with their elected leaders and to inform us about what we can do to help keep and create jobs. As lawmakers, we must encourage educators to refocus their efforts in educating our young people. Just as we expect our football teams to perform at high levels we should have the same expectation for superintendents, principals, counselors, classroom teachers, and parents to produce graduates who are adequately prepared to meet employment needs in the future. 12/22/2011 - Hearing the beautiful sounds of Christmas music as we shop or seeing young children sit wild-eyed in Santa's lap bring so many fond memories to mind. But even in our own country, so many won't experience these joys.
While we live in the greatest nation this earth has ever known, those less fortunate here and around the world should be remembered in our prayers that they will find peace and happiness.
Please take time to thank the Almighty for what you have, the most blessed of all faith in Him and hope for your fellow man. Read more » | | 12/16/2011 - Henry Ford once said, “Obstacles are those frightful things you can see when you take your eyes off your goal.” Those words ring true in Alabama as your elected leaders continue to find bold ways to stimulate the state’s economy during what have been some rocky and uncertain times. And things are looking up. Figures released Friday by the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations show Alabama’s unemployment rate for November at 8.7 percent, down from 9.8 percent in September, which represents five consecutive months of job growth. The even better news is that 38,000 more people in the state have jobs today than in January of this year. Read more »
